Sunflowers
Sunflower Quarter
This quilt started whole in my head and came out in a mad rush of 10 & 12 hour days at the machine for about a month.
It started with the largest canvas I could fit in my car.
I could see the finished product but was delving into new techniques to get there. Standing in front of my wall of collected fabric, pieces caught my eye to bring color, texture, or pattern to the quilt.
Over time my quilts have been leaving the surface more and more.
Much of the stiffness of the petals is just the heaviness of the fabric to give it body.
With my sewing machine, I draw on and adhere the layers of fabric, sometimes going back and cutting away.
As the quilts have become much heavier I have begun to stretch them over canvas to give them the stability they need.
This piece has found a forever home in the Cross Keys Village Art Walk.

Sunflower Field
Inspired by the yearly sunflower field in Franklin County that kindly farmers grow and leave paths to visit.
Each circle of petals is hand cut.
Once I started I found it hard to stop.
I can't tell you how many flowers there are on the piece; maybe someday I will count them all.
This piece has found a new forever home.
